Privacy policy and disclaimer
Effective 22 September 2026. Applies to the Serve Companion Chrome extension, version 1.1.9 and later.
In short: Serve Companion keeps its data on your computer and sends job data only to ServeManager, using your own API key. It has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no server of its own, and the developer never receives your data. It writes to ServeManager only after you confirm a review step.

What the extension stores on your computer
Everything below is kept in the extension’s own local storage on the computer where you installed it; the key that encrypts your API key is kept in the extension’s browser database (IndexedDB). None of it is synced through your Google account, and none of it is sent to the developer.

Excel exports, settings files and field-check reports are saved only when you press the button, as an ordinary browser download. Expired data is deleted automatically every few hours and when Chrome starts. Settings has buttons to clear case data or remove everything at once. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it.
How the API key is protected
- It is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is saved. The encryption key is generated inside the browser as non-extractable, so no script, including the extension itself, can read its raw bytes.
- It is decrypted only inside the extension’s background worker, only when a request needs it. The panel and settings pages never receive it, and it is never shown again after you save it.
- It is never synced, exported or included in a settings file.
This protects against someone reading the browser’s stored files, exports or sync. It does not protect against someone with full control of your unlocked computer or a complete copy of your browser profile. That is why a separate key per person or computer is recommended: you can revoke any one of them on ServeManager’s API Keys page.
Where data goes
- ServeManager (servemanager.com): job lookups and searches, the lists you check, notes you post, and – only if you turn them on – status changes and attempts you log. This is governed by your agreement with ServeManager and its own privacy policy.
- ServeManager’s file storage (amazonaws.com): only when you press Open on a file, the file link ServeManager provides.
- Google Maps: only when you press Map, Route or the right-click map item, the address or addresses, opened in an ordinary browser tab.
- Your email app: only when you press Email client, the client update you wrote.
Nothing else. There are no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking and no server run by the developer. The developer does not receive, see, sell, rent or share your data, and does not use it for any purpose. Optional debug logging, off by default, writes to your own browser console and nowhere else.
Web pages the extension reads
On servemanager.com, the extension reads the address of the page you are on and the job number shown, so the panel can load the right job. It does not read your other sites or your browsing history. When you right-click selected text on another site and choose a Serve Companion item, only that selected text is used, and only for the action you chose. When you right-click a ServeManager job link, the link’s address is used to find the job.
If you turn on pinned-job alerts, Chrome shows a notification titled with the job number and what changed (for example “1 new attempt”). Notifications can appear on your lock screen, depending on your operating system settings.

Your choices
- Every feature beyond a job’s own details can be turned off, and a turned-off feature stops reading data for itself.
- Delete stored data at any time from Settings, or uninstall the extension.
- Revoke the API key in ServeManager to end that key’s access.
Because the developer holds none of your data, there is nothing for the developer to export or delete on request. Data held by ServeManager is governed by ServeManager.
Children
Serve Companion is a business tool for ServeManager account users. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Serve Companion is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. It is beta software and may contain errors.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not responsible or liable for any loss or damage arising from:
- how the extension is used or configured, or information you enter;
- your computer, operating system, browser, network, other extensions or security settings;
- your ServeManager account, its settings, its permissions, or changes to ServeManager’s service or API;
- notes, status changes or attempts you confirm and send to ServeManager;
- data loss, lost time, missed deadlines, service or filing errors, or any indirect or consequential loss.
You are responsible for your use of the extension and for checking everything before you confirm it. Always confirm job details, dates and service information in ServeManager itself. Nothing in Serve Companion or on this page is legal advice.
By installing or using Serve Companion you accept this policy and disclaimer. If you do not accept them, remove the extension.
