Lullen: a raccoon who lives in your new tab, free and offline by design

DHSeaDev — Chrome Extensions, Windows Tools, & Idle Games

Lullen is a free Chrome extension that replaces your new tab with a kawaii raccoon who walks around, tidies up and plays a small sorting game. It is coming to the Chrome Web Store; it is not listed there yet, and this post makes no availability claim beyond that. The Lullen project page has the full overview.

What it is

Lullen and his companion Dumpy are original characters drawn for this project. The art, the walking and tidying behaviour, the sorting game and the interface are hand-written, with no framework and no third-party runtime dependencies.

What it asks for

  • Two permissions: storage and search. Search uses your browser’s default search engine.
  • No network requests. The extension’s content security policy sets connect-src to none, and there is no account and no analytics.
  • Local data only. Everything is stored in your browser, with export, import and erase-everything buttons in Settings.

Credits and a support link

Settings now has a Credits and support section. Lullen is free and stays free; there is an optional Ko-fi link for anyone who wants to chip in. It opens in a new tab only if you click it, so the no-network-requests claim still holds. My release gate originally flagged that URL as a remote reference, so I added an exact-URL allow-list and proved with seeded mutants that lookalike and bare-string URLs still fail.

How it was checked

A custom 13-check release gate passes, and a real-Chromium suite loading the built extension finished with 83 checks passed. I rendered the Settings drawer and looked at it. Not verified: how the extension behaves on a Chrome Web Store install, since there is no listing yet, and whether the name collides with another extension.
