Mosslight

Mosslight is an idle game about a healer who cannot attack. There is no attack button anywhere in it. You pick a road, pick which creature friends walk it with you, and keep them alive with songs, six of them in time, while they do the fighting. It runs in your browser, it is free, and it keeps going at half pace for up to twelve hours after you close the tab.

Version 0.3.0, released 20 September 2026. Free, with no ads, no real-money purchases and no account. It is also in the DHSeaDev arcade. Each site keeps its own save, so a game started on itch.io does not carry over to the arcade unless you export and import it.

What you actually do

You watch, and you sing when it matters. Your friends walk the road and fight whatever is on it. You watch their health, their ailments and your mana, and choose the moment for each song. Get the timing right and a hard road becomes a long walk. Get it wrong and the lane falls.

Six songs, one mana pool

Songs mend, cleanse, shield, bloom, wake and rally. Each has its own cooldown, and all six draw from the same mana, so the decision is always which one, and when.

Twelve friends, four classes

Twelve creatures to befriend across four classes, each with its own art and its own behaviour on the road. Who you bring changes what you have to heal.

Twenty-four roads

Three regions, starting in the Verge and ending, for now, at the Cinder Steps.

Gifts and a sanctuary

Eighteen gifts across five rarities, with mastery and scrapping. Nine materials, seven provisions and six sanctuary buildings to spend them on.

It carries on without you

Close the tab and the road keeps going at half pace for up to twelve hours. When you come back, the game tells you what happened.

A long road, on purpose

Eight Insight upgrades, ten titles, a 21-entry Ledger, fifteen story requests, and a Sabbatical reset at level 50 for when you want to start the climb again faster.

Built to be read

Two themes, Heather and Lantern, both checked against WCAG AA. Four text sizes, a high-contrast mode, reduced-motion support and a Zen mode that hides the panels and leaves the lane. Every control works from the keyboard, with the full shortcut table in Settings. Ailments are marked by shape as well as colour, so they can be read without relying on colour.

Questions

Is Mosslight free?

Yes. It is free on itch.io and in the DHSeaDev arcade, with no ads, no real-money purchases and no account to make.

Does it keep playing when I close the tab?

Yes, at half pace, for up to twelve hours. When you come back, it tells you what happened on the road while you were away.

Where are my saves kept?

In your own browser. The game saves automatically and also has three manual slots. You can export a save to a file and import it on another device. There is no cloud save, so clearing your browser’s site data deletes the save unless you exported it first.

Can I play it without a mouse?

Yes. Every control has a keyboard route, and Settings lists the shortcuts. There are also two themes, four text sizes, a high-contrast mode and reduced motion.

Privacy

The short version: Mosslight saves your game in your own browser, and nothing about you leaves it.

What is not done yet

  • The Cinder Steps are the end of the road for now.
  • Swapping pets mid-road, song loadouts and a codex are designed but not built.
  • There is a mobile layout, tested in a headless browser at phone sizes but not yet on real phones.
