Mosslight: an idle game where the healer cannot attack

DHSeaDev — Chrome Extensions, Windows Tools, & Idle Games

Mosslight is a free idle game for the browser in which you play a healer who cannot attack. Your creature friends walk the road and do the fighting; you keep them alive with songs, six of them eventually. Version 0.3.0 went up on itch.io on 20 September 2026, and it has its own project page here.

Why a healer who cannot attack?

Idle games are usually about hitting things until a number gets big. Mosslight takes the other seat: the one at the back who keeps everyone else standing. Here the creatures on your side are ones you befriend, and there is no attack button at all. If the lane holds, it is because you timed the right song.

The six songs mend, cleanse, shield, bloom, wake and rally. Each has its own cooldown and all of them draw from one mana pool, so the game is a string of small decisions: this song now, or that one a moment later.

What is in version 0.3.0?

  • The road. Three regions and 24 roads, from the Verge to the Cinder Steps.
  • The friends. Twelve creatures to befriend across four classes, each with its own art and behaviour.
  • The loot. Eighteen gifts across five rarities, with mastery and scrapping, plus nine materials, seven provisions and six sanctuary buildings.
  • The long game. Eight Insight upgrades, ten titles, a 21-entry Ledger, fifteen story requests and a Sabbatical reset at level 50.

What does idle mean in Mosslight?

You can leave it. Close the tab and the road keeps going at half pace for up to twelve hours, and when you come back the game tells you what happened.

Where do Mosslight saves live?

In your own browser. The game saves automatically, and there are three manual slots on top of that. You can export a save to a file and import it somewhere else. There is no cloud save and no account, which also means clearing the browser’s site data deletes the save, so export one if it matters to you. The game makes no network calls, runs no ads, sells nothing and tracks nothing. itch.io, which hosts the page, has its own privacy policy.

Is Mosslight accessible?

There are two themes, Heather and Lantern, both checked against WCAG AA, plus four text sizes, a high-contrast mode, reduced motion and a Zen mode that hides the panels and leaves the lane. Everything works from the keyboard, and the shortcut table is in Settings. Ailments are shown by shape as well as colour.

Where can I play Mosslight?

On itch.io, free, in your browser. It is also on the DHSeaDev arcade, and the games index links both.

Update, 20 September 2026: Mosslight is now live in the arcade at play.dhseadev.online/games/mosslight/, as well as on itch.io. The two sites keep separate saves.

If you want more of the same kind of thing, Singularity Tower and Spellsurge are the other idle games on the shelf. Creature Camp, which went up on itch.io the day before, is unrelated but shares the same no-account, no-tracking approach. The roundup of free browser games you can play right now has the rest.

What is not done yet?

  • The Cinder Steps are the end of the road for now.
  • Swapping pets mid-road, song loadouts and a codex are designed but not built.
  • The mobile layout has been tested in a headless browser at phone sizes, not yet on real phones.
  • The arcade version is not live yet. It is now, at play.dhseadev.online/games/mosslight/.

If you play it and something feels off, especially the pacing of the later roads, I would like to hear about it at dhseadev@gmail.com or in the itch.io comments. Every post is on the devlog and in the full history.
